All rhythmic patterns played on the mridangam or any percussion instrument can also be recited vocally using a special vocabulary of phonetic syllables known as solkattu. Konnakol is the art of performing solkattu and is one of the most complex and elaborate rhythmic systems in the world. Spoken Rhythms: Konnakol explores the depth, stature, and range of this ancient art.
