Thomas welcomes you and then kicks things off with a playthrough of the song that we’ll be creating throughout the course. ( You also get all the files used in the video course, so you can follow along every step of the way in your own Live session. Then it’s on to the track’s rhythmic foundation: the drums. Thomas will show you how to build the drum track, as well as how to apply some bus processing to enhance their tone.

Next, you’ll learn how to create a chord progression with keys to serve as the melodic and harmonic bed, followed by some percussion parts and demonstrations of some new MIDI editing features in Live 12. Thomas then shows how to add a bass part using a preset that he tweaks with some added distortion and other effects to hold down the bottom. Through the rest of the course, you’ll learn much more, including adding more chord layers, adding an arp synth part (using the sequencer), adding vocal chops (from a loop, also demonstrating how to change the pitch of a sample), arranging the song (deciding which parts go where, etc.), and mixing/mastering tips (combining all the instruments, adding effects, and more).
