Plughugger Mints For Omnisphere

Plughugger Mints For Omnisphere

The “Altoids” is one of the more curious sampled synthesizers in Omnisphere, and is basically miniature synthesizer with two knobs hosted in an old Altoids mints candy tin box.

While the sound of the synthesizers itself is limited in scope, its tone and feel is wonderfully synthetic, which probably was the reason why Spectrasonics included it in their library, together with a few sonic variations using the Korg Kaoss Pad effect unit.

The sound design goal with the Mints soundset was to create a smaller library focusing on a specific part of Omnisphere, in this case the DIY Altoids Synthesizer. And due to its synthetic nature, we decided to pursue sounds of a synthetic nature. Apart from those two conceptual ideas – anything in the world of sounds was up for grabs.

Distorted “Chemical” basslines? Check.
Badly tuned soundscapes for Nightmare Acid? Check.
Old-school rave-sounds? Check.
Massive powerpads with huge reverbs? Check!

Creamy electric pianos?
Overcompressed synth leads?
Techno-funk bass sounds?
Talkbox synthesizers?

All of that and more.
